Holed up militant kills Brigadier, 3 officials hurt

New Delhi: A Brigadier was killed, while Northern Army Commander, a Corps Commander and
another top Army official were injured in firing by a terrorist hiding in Akhnoor Army camp, hours
after a suicide attack in which seven jawans died, Defence sources said.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Hari Prasad, general officer Commanding-in-Chief
(GOC-in-C) 16 Corps Lieutenant General T P S Brar, a Major General and Brigadier Govil of EME
were visiting the site of the attack at around 1.15 pm (IST), when the holed-up terrorist opened fire
and lobbed grenades, the sources said.
Brigadier Govil was seriously injured in the attack and succumbed soon after, they said.
Gen Prasad, Gen Brar and the other official sustained sharpnel injuries and were shifted to Army
Hospital in Srinagar, they said.
The terrorist was later killed at around 2.40 PM by the armymen. His two associates were gunned
down earlier while a search was on for the possible fourth accomplice.
