Tuesday, July 22 2003 19:30 Hrs (IST)
Moradabad: Leader of Opposition in Pakistan National Assembly and chief of Jamiat-a-Islami Maulana
Fazlur Rehman on July 22 said though he was not averse to third party mediation in resolving Indo-Pak
disputes, he would prefer bilateral talks to bring about peace in the region.
Rehman told reporters that he had come to India with a "paigam" (message) of good will" from the
people of Pakistan.
He said he and other members of his entourage were overwhelmed by the welcome extended to them
and the positive response they got from the people of India.
"Now it is up to the people of the two countries to prepare their respective governments to sit across the
table and negotiate," he said.
Rahman said after resumption of the bus service between the two countries, he wanted restarting of the
train link and trade to further strengthen relations.
He said he was against violence and disapproved of the attacks on places of worship and worshippers
and condemned the July 21 killing of pilgrims at Jammu.
