RS adjourned for one hour amidst uproar on Ayodhya
Tuesday, July 22 2003 13:20 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Rajya Sabha was adjourned for one hour on July 22 within minutes after assembling amidst
pandemonium with agitated Opposition members demanding
suspension of Question Hour to discuss Ayodhya issue.
Trouble broke out when RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) leader Laloo Prasad Yadav said Prime Minister Atal
Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani "should be dismissed" over the Ayodhya issue.
He was joined by other Opposition members who attacked the government.
Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said since the matter was sub-judice, it was not possible to hold
discussion on it.
However, an unrelenting Opposition kept shouting and demanding a discussion, which prompted the
Chair to observe that it was not possible to suspend the Question Hour.
"Anyway we cannot suspend the Question Hour, keeping in mind our pledge on the occasion of the
Golden Jubilee of Indian Parliament (not to take up any other matter during the period)", Shekhawat said.
He said whatever had to be decided on the matter should be taken up only after the Question Hour.
But sensing the mood of the House, Shekhawat adjourned it after over 10 minutes of pandemonium.
