'Saddam's sons likely killed in US raid in Iraq'
Tuesday, July 22 2003 22:39 Hrs (IST)
Washington: Two sons of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein were likely two of the four people killed
in a US raid in Northern Iraq, US media reported on July 22.
CNN television quoted an unnamed US official as saying that the government was reasonably certain
that Uday and Qusay Hussein had "met their maker".
US media reported that US troops targeted a compound in the Mosul area, where several top Iraqi
officials were believed to be with 200 troops from the 101st airborne. CNN reported that no one was
captured in the raid and that four people were killed.
An official told the network that the United States had all four bodies and were in the process of
confirming their identities.
Meanwhile in Baghdad, relatives of Sheikh Mohammad al-Zaidan, head of the Bu Issa tribe, said he and
his son were arrested on July 22 after US forces, suspecting that members of Saddam's family were
hiding in their house fired rockets into it during a seven-hour fire fight.
Relatives said that US forces finally stormed the house, arresting the Sheik and his son and added that
none of Saddam's relatives were in the house.
Recently, the United States put a price of $ 15 million on the heads of Saddam's sons.
