New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on July 23 welcomed the Supreme Court observation that a Uniform Civil Code would help national integration and hoped that all political parties, especially the Opposition and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners, would lend their support in bringing such a legislation in Parliament.

"We welcome this observation of the Supreme Court and now we hope that all political parties especially the Opposition and our partners in the NDA would support such a legislation. A meeting of the NDA would be held soon to discuss this matter," party spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters.

He said now that the apex court has made such an observation "we will try to get support of all parties even though we don't have majority."

Malhotra said for equality of all communities, there was need for progressive laws to be legislated but for such laws, there was need for all communities to come together.
