Thursday, July 24 2003 10:27 Hrs (IST)
United Nations: Voicing deep concern over spurt in violence by militants in Jammu and Kashmir in the
last two days, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan counselled restraint and condemned terrorism in all its
forms.
In a statement issued on July 23 in the wake of attacks on Vaishno Devi pilgrims and Akhnoor Army
camp, Annan urged "those concerned" to exercise restraint.
He said India and Pakistan should continue their efforts to resolve their differences peacefully through
normalisation of diplomatic relations, confidence-building measures and renewed dialogue.
Annan also expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the twin terrorist attacks.
