Shiv Sena does a volte face, says it opposes CAS
Thursday, July 24 2003 22:01 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Shiv Sena on July 24 threw a spanner in a smooth roll over of Conditional Access System (CAS) saying it had not given up its opposition to the controversial scheme.

"We are opposed to CAS and we will not allow its implementation in area under our influence", Shiv Sena general secretary Subhash Desai told reporters bringing into question its smooth implementation in Mumbai.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had visited Mumbai some time back for a meeting with Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackarey to allay his apprehensions on CAS under which set-top boxes would be required to access pay channels.
