2 jawans killed, 4 hurt in militants' attack in JK

Jammu: Three days after the strike on an Army camp in Akhnoor, militants ambushed a patrol party, killing two Army jawans and wounding four in Surankote hills of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on July 25, police sources said.

A patrol party of security forces was on its way to an location for operation in Surankote hills, when the militants opened indiscriminate fire and hurled grenades from hill tops at Morha Bachie in Poonch, the sources said.

The strike left two jawans of 45 Rashtriya Rifles dead and four injured.

Additional troops have been rushed to the area to launch a combing operation in the entire belt, the sources said.

This is second attack on the Army in the last three days after the Akhnoor camp strike, in which eight armymen, one of them a brigadier, were killed and 11 injured, including three top generals of the Northern Command, on July 22.

Meanwhile, security forces recovered weapons and ammunition, including one AK magazine, 60 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, in Rajouri on July 25, the sources said and added the search operation was in progress.
