Minister's drunken son breaks into Bihar Assembly
Saturday, July 26 2003 10:56 Hrs (IST)

Patna: In an unprecedented incident, an inebriated son of a Bihar minister on July 25 not only squeezed past the security but also unauthorisedly occupied for quite some time the seat of a Congress member in the state Legislative Council prompting the chairman to order his immediate arrest.

The glaring breach of security of the state Legislature came to light when Bhola Prasad Singh (Rashtriya Janata Dal), drew the attention of the chair that a youth in a drunken state had sneaked into the Council and was occupying the seat of Congress member Sharda Prasad Singh.

It is a matter of serious concern. This is an alarming breach of security of the Legislature, Singh said, demanding immediate action against the intruder.

Responding to the member's concern, chairman Jabir Hussain said he had also noticed the wayward activities of the man and said, "I don't know him. But the Watch and Ward staff have informed me that he is the son of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Puranmasi Ram and had come on the beacon-fitted car of his father with his uniformed securitymen."

The chairman ordered the eviction of the man who was detained for some time in the Council secretary's chamber from where he managed to slip away. Amid continuing commotion the chairman ordered his arrest and production before the House at 10:00 hours (IST) on July 26.

Puranmasi's brother Rajesh Ram, who was recently elected to the Council, was present in the House at the time of incident.
