Six militants, one policeman killed in J&K

Srinagar: Six militants, including a Pakistani infiltrator and a policemen were among eight people killed in
Jammu and Kashmir, where a tragedy was averted with the timely detection of an improvised explosive
device (IED) inside a degree college on July 26, an official spokesman said.
The infiltrator identified as Lasher Mir of Muzzaffarabad of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was killed
at Jumagund village near the line of control (LoC) in Treham sector of Kupwara district on July 25 night,
the spokesman said.
With his killing, the toll in the July 25 encounters along the LoC has risen to nine. While five infiltrators
were killed by the troops in Karnah sector, three died in an encounter in Jumagund on July 25.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants who had intruded into
Indian side from across the border under the cover of darkness on Thursday night, the spokesman said.
Three militants were killed by security forces at Thanda Pani near Treham in the same district, he said.
He said two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, one of whom was identified as Abu Mehmood, a self styled
district commander and resident of PoK during search operations at Rakhpora in Shopian area on July
25 night.
Militants shot dead a constable Abdul Rashid at fire service crossing in Batmalo in Central Srinagar on
July 26, the spokesman said.
