Pakistan accuses India of disrupting Pak-Afghan ties
Saturday, July 26 2003 20:41 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Despite Kabul's assertion that Indian diplomatic missions in Afghanistan had no hand in recent attacks in a Quetta mosque, Pakistan on July 26 accused India of disrupting its ties with Afghanistan through the missions.

"During Afghan Interior Minister (Ali Ahmed Jalali's) talks with his Pakistani counterpart, he gave us assurance that Afghanistan will not allow its territory to be used against Pakistan… (But) Pakistan has concerns about activities of Indian diplomatic missions in Afghanistan," Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan told reporters.

"Their (Indian missions) activities are known and they are there to disrupt relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan," Khan said adding, Indians "have made concerted efforts to drive a wedge" between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"There have been denials, but at the same time we remain concerned and this concern has to be addressed by the Afghan government," Khan said, adding Islamabad had conveyed its concerns to Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

On July 24, rejecting Islamabad's charge that Indian diplomatic missions in Afghanistan were behind the attack on a mosque in Quetta early in July, Jalali said the incident was the result of sectarian violence in Pakistan.

"It is not true that Indian Embassy and Consulates in Afghanistan had any involvement in the Quetta attack. The incident was the result of sectarian violence in Pakistan. Such incidents take place in Pakistan even when the Indian Embassy and Consulates were closed," Jalali had said.
