Rehman conveys Vajpayee's message to Jamali
Saturday, July 26 2003 15:13 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Hardline Jamiat-Ulema Islam chief Fazlur Rehman has briefed Pakistan Premier Zafurallah Khan Jamali on his recent visit to India and conveyed a message from Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to him.

"We cannot disclose the details of (Vajpayee's) message as this was the message from a Prime Minister to another Prime Minister," Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, who accompanied Rehman during his recently concluded visit to India, told reporters after the meeting on July 25.

He said the four-member delegation briefed Jamali about "details of all discussions especially on the Kashmir issue" held with Indian leaders during the week-long visit.

Besides meeting Vajpayee, the delegation members had held talks with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and top leaders of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

According to Khan, Jamali on his part expressed satisfaction at the visit of the religious leaders to New Delhi and said this would go a long way in initiating meaningful dialogue between the two countries.

"Prime Minister Jamali appreciated JUI (F) delegation for promoting Pakistan's point of view in India effectively and hoped that this kind of approach by the Opposition would also be helpful in resolving political differences locally," Ahmed was quoted by 'The Nation' daily as saying.

He said Jamali also "reiterated Pakistan's stand that it wanted peaceful resolution of all issues with India through dialogue".
