Enact law on temple or quit NDA: VHP to BJP
Saturday, July 26 2003 11:53 Hrs (IST)
Allahabad: Launching a fresh offensive on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a brief lull, the Vishwa
Hindu Parishad (VHP) on July 25 asked the saffron party to pull out of the National Democratic Alliance
(NDA) government if it was not in a position to enact a legislation for handing over undisputed land at
Ayodhya for construction of the Ram temple there.
"The BJP should quit the NDA government if it cannot persuade its allies to enact a legislation on
handing over undisputed land for construction of the Ram temple there," VHP international president
Ashok Singhal told reporters.
He said the BJP should make up its mind on whether to remain in government or quit on the vexed
Ayodhya issue.
Accusing the BJP of changing its stand on Ayodhya, Uniform Civil Code and scrapping of Article 370 of
the Indian Constitution "for the sake of power", Singhal said such double standard on sensitive issues
would not be tolerated by the Hindus.
The entire Hindu populace have witnessed the double standard of the BJP on all these sensitive issues
and the same would not be tolerated from now on," Singhal said.
"Majority population may not support the party in the upcoming general election if it failed to take
necessary action to sooth their sentiments," he said.
