Security along Amarnath route 'foolproof': Officials
Sunday, July 27 2003 13:54 Hrs (IST)
Jammu: Though there has been a decline in the number of Amarnath pilgrims after the twin terrorist
attacks, officials deny fear as the possible reason for less devotees undertaking the pilgrimage and
claim security along the route to be "foolproof".
A tight security ring has been thrown for pilgrims from Jammu itself to the cave shrine.
"We have a several-layered security in and around Jammu city and along the yatra route," Udhay Kumar
Aima, Superintendent of Police incharge of security at the Maulana Azad Stadium, said.
The stadium, from where the cavalcade carrying pilgrims sets off, looks like impregnable fortes where
yatris undergo several levels of security checks before they board the vehicles.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu and Kashmir Police and other para-military forces are
entrusted with the task of security of the pilgrims, Aima said.
