Srinagar: Four militants were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in the frontier district of Kupwara early July 27, official sources said.

The gunfight began July 27 morning when the security forces launched a search and cordon operation at Khomriyal area of Kupwara following information about militants hiding there, the sources said.

The militants resorted to indiscriminate firing on the troops, with the latter firing back, the sources said.

Four militants were killed in the gunbattle that was still continuing, they said.
