Guntur-Hubli passenger train derails; none injured
Monday, July 28 2003 12:18 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: The engine and a bogie of the Guntur-Hubli passenger train derailed on July 28 near Gadag, about 425 kms from Bangalore, Railway sources said.

However, there were no casualties, they said.

The derailment occurred between Hulkoti and Annigeri railway stations around 4.00 am (IST), soon after the train left Gadag station.

They said the engine and the "SLR" bogie that followed merely jumped the tracks and did not overturn. The sources blamed the derailment to "joint welding failure".

Clearing of the tracks was in progress. Buses were pressed into service for the benefit of passengers, they said.
