Second Pak child undergoes cardiac surgery

Bangalore: Eight-year-old Pakistan boy junaid Khalid, on July 28, underwent an open-heart surgery to
plug a hole in his heart at Narayana Hrudayalaya, a cardiac speciality hospital on the city outskirts.
Junaid, the second Pakistani to undergo heart surgery after two-and-a-half-year old Noor Fatima,
underwent a seven-hour surgery, the doctor attending on him said.
"Junaid was taken to operation theatre around 06.30 hours (IST) and was shifted to the intensive
thoracic unit (ITU) after the surgery at around 13.30 hours (IST)," Dr Raghunath, a doctor attending on
Junaid at Narayana Hrudayalaya, said.
The surgery, a complex one involved "intra-cardiac repair, which included closing a hole in the heart as
well as repair of pulmonary arteries", he said.
"Junaid's condition is quite stable and all vital parameters are fine," he said.
The child is likely to remain the in the ITU for "at least three days", he added.
