Work pressure harming employees' family lives
Monday, July 28 2003 17:27 Hrs (IST)
Sydney: Libido and the desire to go out are being affected by work pressures thus harming the family
lives of most employees, says an Australian survey.
According to 'The Sydney Morning Herald', the JOB Futures/Saulwick survey showed that out of 1000
men and women, almost 60 per cent felt work coming in the way of the quality time they spend with their
families.
Robert Tickner, the chief executive of JOB Futures, said the research showed women were more likely
to be left tired and irritable from work, a state that reduced their interest in sex. While only 13 per cent of
men reported any loss of libido, more than 33 per cent of women said the stress and effort of work left
them sexually uninterested.
Men were more likely than women to complain about work intruding on quality time with friends and
family. Women were more likely to say that job pressures stopped them from doing community work and
reduced time spent on tasks about the house, says the report.
Tickner added, "Clearly for many people the pressure of the job is reducing their overall quality of life.
We live in a highly competitive economy, which is a strong feature of our national life, but it is exacting a
personal toll on people."
