Probe ordered into attack on Manipur Chief Minister
Tuesday, July 29 2003 14:18 Hrs (IST)

Imphal: The Manipur government would probe the attack by militants on Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, on July 27 to find out if there were lacunae in security arrangements that day, Singh said.

Making a statement in the state Assembly, the Chief Minister said that the Commissioner for Rural Development R C Mishra had been appointed as the inquiry officer and was asked to submit the report within a fortnight from July 28.

Earlier, B D Behring (Bharatiya Janata Party) had demanded a statement from the Chief Minister on the attack, saying that the incident occurred when the session of the House was on. The House should also pay respect to those killed in the militant attack, Behring said.

The Chief Minister stated that he, along with Minor Irrigation Minister W Brajabidhu Singh, was returning to Imphal after inspecting the construction of a dam at Tentha in Thoubal district when the incident took place.
