PM rejects demand for Jagmohan's resignation
Tuesday, July 29 2003 13:06 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on July 29 rejected the demand by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for the resignation of Union Tourism Minister Jagmohan in connection with the controversial Taj Heritage Corridor project.

"I have confidence in him and there is no question of his resignation," Vajpayee told the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Party meeting.

Vajpayee said he had received a letter from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister demanding Jagmohan's resignation.

The Chief Minister had alleged that Jagmohan was in "collusion with her rivals" to destabilise her.

Mayawati had spoken to Vajpayee on telephone also demanding Jagmohan's resignation, BJP spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters.

Malhotra said Mayawati, however, assured the Prime Minister that the BJP-BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) coalition in Uttar Pradesh would run its full term and her party would continue to support the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.

The Prime Minister asked BSP not to raise the issue in Parliament, Malhotra said.
