New Delhi: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on July 31 said in the Lok Sabha that Maharashtra
government has been advised to "review" and "streamline" security arrangements in Mumbai to prevent
recurrence of bomb blasts, which have rocked the metropolis since July 28.
Advani was making a statement in the House after it reassembled following a 15-minute adjournment
during the Zero Hour, when the Opposition and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena combine
clashed over comments made by Minister of state for Power Jaywantiben Mehta on explosion in Mumbai
in the wee hours of July 31. She had attacked the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) regime in
Maharashtra.
Quoting reports received from the state government about the bomb explosion on July 31 and that in
Ghatkopar on July 28, the Deputy Prime Minister said seven persons were killed and 25 others injured
as a result of "very high intensity" blast in a chawl in Yadav Nagar area of Jogeshwari, West Mumbai, at
3.00 am (IST) on July 31.
He said as per the initial reports, the explosion occurred at the residence of one Dil Nawaj Khan, who
used to store and supply fireworks from his house and a nearby godown for stunt scenes in Hindi
movies.
Advani said Mumbai police, which is investigating the case, has informed that 40-year-old Khan, his wife
and daughter were among those killed and adjoining houses damaged.
