No proposal to take over as BJP president: Advani
Saturday, August 2 2003 12:06 Hrs (IST)
On board special IAF aircraft: Dismissing a speculation about his taking over as Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) president ahead of next Lok Sabha elections, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on August 2 said
there is no such proposal.
"There is no such proposal," Advani told accompanying reporters en route to Pune, when asked
whether he was ruling out the possibility of taking over as the party chief.
"This has been going on for a long time," Advani said about the speculation in this
regard.
Speculation on the issue had been rife ever since Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee made a surprise
remark at a function in Delhi two months back that Advani would lead the party to victory.
The party at its national executive at Raipur in July also amended its constitution providing a second
term for its president, albeit not consecutively, fuelling further speculation.
