'Ayodhya is sub-judice, PM, DPM have no authority'
Saturday, August 2 2003 19:40 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: The issue of construction of Ram temple was sub-judice, and Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani have no authority to decide on building Ram mandir in Ayodhya, said Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on August 2.

Criticising the duo for taking a pledge to build the temple at the funeral of Mahant Paramhans Das on August 1, Singh said, "such action would lead to violent reactions in the country."

"The Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister have no authority to decide on building Ram mandir in Ayodhya. It is to be decided by the court. How they can issue such statements on building temple at the disputed site," Singh said while speaking to reporters.

Commenting on the UP government, he said, "Chief Minister Mayawati is being used for dragging BJP's cart." About the differences between Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the SP leader said, "we are keeping watch on the situation."
