Ultras fire from Bangladesh soil; BSF jawan killed
Sunday, August 3 2003 20:17 Hrs (IST)
Kailashahar (North Tripura): A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed when insurgents of the
banned National Liberation Front of Tripura fired from Bangladesh soil across the village of Maguruli in
North Tripura district on August 3.
The police said about three jawans during patrolling at the village entered the house of a local
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) leader, Sudhir Deb, late in the night as there was a threat to his
life.
Suddenly 10 to 12 insurgents indiscriminately fired from across the border, which is only 300 metres
away from the house of Deb, killing one constable, identified as V T Pillai, on the spot.
As the jawans retaliated, the ultras escaped taking advantage of bad light.
The BSF meanwhile has sent a note to the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) protesting over allowing the soil of
Bangladesh to be used by the ultras, the police said.
