Pandya murder: CBI to secure Red Corner warrant
Sunday, August 3 2003 11:08 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the assassination of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya has led to involvement of an Ahmedabad resident, Rasool Khan, presently believed to be in Pakistan, even as the agency is going to approach Interpol for issuance of a Red Corner notice against two other persons allegedly involved in the conspiracy.

According to interrogation of some suspects arrested by the CBI, Khan had left Gujarat three years back for a Gulf country on his way to Pakistan, where he is believed to be working in a Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) cell.

Believed to be a dangerous person, Khan who had been airing anti-national sentiments, would soon be slapped with sedition charges by the Ahmedabad police, sources said.

CBI sources said that Khan had been "indoctrinating" hundreds of youths from Gujarat and Hyderabad with anti-India sentiments.

He was also instrumental in setting up LeT bases in Gulf countries where expatriate Muslim youths from the country were "brainwashed" and prepared for waging war against the country.

Meanwhile, CBI has approached a local court in Ahmedabad for issuance of a non-bailable warrant against two suspects in the assassination of Pandya -- Sohail Khan Pathan and Mufti Sufian, so that an Interpol Red Corner notice could be issued against the two.

The two, against whom CBI also announced a cash reward, were presently believed to be holed up in some South East Asian country.

The agency was working fast on the Red Corner notice so that the two were not able to slip into Pakistan.
