Srinagar: Amarnath Yatra was on August 4 suspended for a day following heavy rains along the two
routes to the cave shrine, official sources said in Srinagar.
Overnight rains lashed Pahalgam and Baltal routes to the 3,880-metre high cave rendering the two
arduous tracks slippery and dangerous forcing the authorities to suspend the Yatra for the day, they
said.
Although the rains stopped around this afternoon, the authorities did not allow the yatris (pilgrims) to
proceed forward or backward as a precautionary measure, the sources said.
The yatris were camping at the resting places along the routes, they said.
The sources said the situation is being monitored and the Yatra would be resumed once the weather
improved and the routes became safe.
Meanwhile, a devotee, 70-year-old Shiv Dutt from Uttaranchal, died following cardiac arrest after paying
obeisance at the cave shrine on August 2, they said.
