Talks will be held with Muslim leaders: Nyas chief
Tuesday, August 5 2003 16:16 Hrs (IST)
Ayodhya: The newly appointed working president of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das
on August 5 said discussions will be held with local Muslims leaders in order to reach an understanding
on the Ram temple issue and ensure their co-operation and participation in its construction.
"It is necessary that the Muslim community is taken into confidence for resolving the Ram temple issue to
ensure permanent peace and amity in the country," Das said.
The Mahant said he was aware of the enormous task before him as the working president of the Nyas.
On the recent initiative of the Shankaracharya of Kanchi Peeth, Jayendra Saraswati, to resolve the long-
pending dispute through dialogue, he said the Shankaracharya had held informal talks with the Muslim
leaders of Ayodhya during his visit besides discussing the issue with the saints as well and added that
such moves could help create a conducive atmosphere for temple construction.
The Mahant said it was of utmost importance that the temple be constructed through mutual agreement
between the two communities. "It is not important whether it is constructed by VHP (Vishwa Hindu
Parishad) or BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) or any other organisation," he added.
