New Delhi: Slashing the list of dismissed striking employees, the Tamil Nadu government on August 5
submitted before the Supreme Court that it would take back 8,474 employees from among the 14,526
employees who were not reinstated.
The Apex Court then directed the Madras High Court Chief Justice to nominate three retired judges of
the High Court to look into the representation of 6,072 employees, who still figure in the dismissed list.
Of the 6072 employees, around 2700 holding higher positions will be treated to be placed under
suspension instead of being dismissed, the Supreme Court directed.
The Jayalalithaa government had given an undertaking before the Apex Court on July 24 that it would
take back most of the 1.76 lakh state government employees dismissed for striking work except those
booked for indulging in violence and aiding and abetting the state-wide agitation.
