New Delhi: The US State Department's annual report on "Trafficking in Persons" has made a number
of "unwarranted and exaggerated" references to the situation in India, government said in Lok Sabha on
August 6.
The government rejects the report, designating India as a "Tier II" country, and considers it an internal
exercise of the US administration under its domestic law, Minister of state for Human Resource
Development Jaskaur Meena said in a written reply.
Weapons: An unclassified report of Central Investigative Agency (CIA) to US Congress on the
acquisition of technology relating to weapons of mass destruction and advanced conventional munitions
has reference to India along with other countries including Pakistan, Minister of state for External Affairs
Digvijay Singh said.
Government has made its position known to US, he said, adding India remains committed to general and
complete disarmament under strict and effective international control and stands for complete
elimination of nuclear weapons worldwide.
Water: Forty-six of 314 samples of various brands of packaged drinking water were found to contain
Coliform bacteria in a survey by West Bengal Department of Consumer Affairs in collaboration with West
Bengal Pollution Control Board, Minister of state for Health A Raja said.
The brands include Aquafina, Bailey, Bisleri, Kinley and Prime, he said, adding that the Bureau of Indian
Standards analysed around 100 samples of the same brands, but did not find them failing in the
Coliform count.
