Kalyan granted more time to inspect demolition records
Thursday, August 7 2003 13:23 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, summoned by the Liberhan Commission
as a witness in the light of his "new conspiracy theory" on demolition of the disputed structure at
Ayodhya in 1992, was on August 7 granted three weeks time to inspect the records relating to
demolition and was asked to appear before the Commission on September 2.
The Commission, while allowing Singh three weeks time to inspect the relevant records, asked him to
appear before it as a witness on Septemebr 2 and 3.
The Commission, on July 28, had summoned Singh as a witness but rejected a plea to seek presence of
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani to inquire into their alleged
role in the conspiracy to demolish the disputed structure.
Commission chairman Justice M S Liberhan had said that the former Chief Minister was a "pivotal
witness" and it was in the public interest that the truth be unveiled.
Petitions filed before the Commission had sought summoning of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime
Minister and Singh as the latter had made a public statement that there was a wider conspiracy to
demolish the disputed structure and that the top hierarchy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was aware of
it.
