LDF hartal hits normal life in Thiruvananthapuram
Friday, August 8 2003 13:34 Hrs (IST)

Thiruvananthapuram: Normal life in the city was hit on August 8 by the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF)-sponsored dawn-to-dusk district hartal (stir) protesting against the 'use of force' by police on agitating students in Thiruvananthapuram on August 8.

Buses were off the road and shops remained closed in the city and the suburbs.

Government had declared a holiday for educational institutions.

The pro-Left students took out a march in the city.

Several students and some policemen were hurt when the students' march against the UDF (United Democratic Front) government's educational policy turned violent on August 7.
