BJP backs Advani's views on synchronised polls
Saturday, August 9 2003 22:29 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 9 supported Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani's idea of synchronised elections to Lok Sabha and Assemblies, but felt there was need to discuss it and arrive at a consensus.

It ruled out forcing its views on others.

"We are of the firm view that it would be better for the country if simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Assemblies are held as it would save time and money and also not divert the administration from developmental activities," party president M Venkaiah Naidu said.

He said that there was need to discuss it and arrive at a consensus and "there is no question of our forcing our views on others".
