Saturday, August 9 2003 11:51 Hrs (IST)
Jamshedpur: Seven-year-old Shweta Kumar was rescued unharmed from a house at Gitilpi village of
West Singhbhum district early on August 9 in a joint raid by Bihar and Jharkhand police, police said.
The girl was abducted at gunpoint by motor-cycle borne youths who pushed away her father when they
were waiting outside their Patna residence for a rickshaw to take her to school on August 8.
Her abduction came a fortnight after that of another boy, the nephew of a Bihar minister, and a bank
manager, both of whom remain traceless.
A joint police team led by Chakradharpur DSP Amar jit Balhar following tip off that some criminals,
travelling in a van, had taken shelter at a lodge at Chakradharpur in Jharkhand raided it after spotting
the vehicle near the lodge.
The police arrested the driver Sunil Yadav, a resident of Patna, whose interrogation led to the house in
Gitilpi village where the child was hidden, the police said.
Four persons, including the driver and the house owner Pushpa Sarin, were arrested. The two others
were identified as Md Tafrez alias Mintu (a resident of Purnea) and Tinku, the police said.
The girl was unharmed and had been brought to Chakradharpur police station.
