Ahmedabad: Two persons were killed and 21 injured, seven seriously, in a fire that occurred due to a "blast" among a hutment in Ektanagar locality of Danilimda on August 10, official sources said.

One of the victims was brought dead at the L G Hospital and the other was declared dead on arrival at the V S Hospital while several others received treatment. The condition of seven was reported to be serious, the sources said.

Fire officials have controlled the blaze that occurred due to a "blast" and several huts were totally gutted in the blaze, they said.

Senior inspector of Danilimda police J J Patel said, "The fire does not appear to be one that was caused by a gas cylinder blast but rather that of a crude device explosion that could have been lying among a heap of garbage nearby."

He said officials were still investigating the real cause of the fire and that forensic officials would also investigate.
