Jammu: Five Army jawans and a militant were killed and four others injured in two separate ambushes in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir on August 11, police said.

Four jawans were killed when a group of militants, who had laid ambush near the line of control (LoC) in Kalsian (Bhawani) area of Noushera tehsil of Rajouri district, opened indiscriminate fire and hurled grenades at a patrol party on August 11 afternoon, they said.

In the return of fire, security forces killed a militant and surrounded the area where the militants were holed up, they said, adding additional troops had been rushed to the area to assist in the operation which was still on when reports last came in.

In another incident, an Army man was killed and four others wounded when militants attacked an Army operation party in Salotri forest area of Poonch district August 10 night, official sources said.

A search operation has been launched by troops to track down the militants responsible for the attack, they added.
