BHEL bags over 1,400-cr NTPC contract in Bihar

Bangalore: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 1,412-crore contract to supply
equipment for the 1,000 MW second stage of National Thermal Power Corporation's (NTPC) Kahalgaon
Super Thermal Power Project in Bihar.
"BHEL scope of work for the project envisages manufacture, supply, testing, erection and commissioning
of steam turbine generators, boilers, associated auxiliaries and electricals for two sets of 500 MW
capacity rating, besides state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation and electrostatic precipitators,"
according to a BHEL release.
BHEL's electronics division at Bangalore would supply the control and instrumentation system while
turbine generators and boilers would be manufactured at the company's Haridwar and Tiruchirapalli
plants respectively, the release said, adding that units in Hyderabad, Bhopal, Jhansi and Ranipet would
supply various other systems.
The first 500 MW Kahalgaon unit is slated for commissioning within 40 months followed by the second
unit five months thereafter.
