16 killed in Kashmir, huge cache of arms seized

Srinagar: Sixteen people, including seven militants and six security personnel, were killed in militancy- related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since August 10 night, an official spokesman said on August 11.

Four Army jawans were killed when a group of heavily armed militants opened fire and threw grenades at troops near the Line of Control (LoC) at Kalsian in Noushera sector of Rajouri district on August 11 morning, he said. Troops retaliated killing an ultra. An AK rifle, two magazines, five grenades and 132 rounds were recovered from him.

Two ultras and a jawan were killed in a fierce gunbattle at Sarachi village in Banihal tehsil on August 10. Another jawan was injured in the encounter. A pika gun, an AK rifle with 200 rounds and six grenades were recovered from the slain ultras.

Two militants were killed in two other encounters in Banihal on August 10, the spokesman said, adding a pika gun and an AK assualt rifle were recovered from them.
