Jerusalem: In the first major terror attacks in Israel since the truce declared by Islamic militants six weeks
ago, at least two Israelis were killed and a dozen injured in two suicide bombings on August 12.
A suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body in a shopping centre at Rosh Ha'ayin near
the capital Tel Aviv around 9:00 am (11.30 am IST), killing himself, one Israeli and injuring at least 10,
four of them seriously.
Police found two corpses in the Neve Afek supermarket, that of a victim and the suicide bomber.
Police said the blast led to a fire that burned down several stores. The injured were taken to hospitals in
Petah Tikva, which is West of Rosh Ha'ayin.
Barely an hour later, a second suicide bomber blew himself up at a bus stop on the road heading from
the Jewish West Bank settlement of Ariel to Tel Aviv. One Israeli and the bomber were killed, and two
people were seriously wounded.
Earlier, it was reported that the bomber may have been shot at by security forces and that the firing had
set off the bomb.
Entrances to the towns of Ra'anana and Kfar Sava have been closed, as police search for another
suicide bomber, police spokesman Sivan Weissman said.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, even as Hamas and Islamic Jihad said they
remained committed to the June 29 ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Ministry said the two attacks appeared to be co-ordinated.
"The timing, the style, it looks like it's not a coincidence," said Jonathan Peled, Foreign Ministry
spokesman.
