ONGC staff damage chairman's car, threatens stir

Mumbai: Angry employees of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on August 12 stoned the car
of chairman and managing director Subir Raha at the Juhu helibase.
The employees, who have been demanding the removal of Raha, protested, shouted slogans and broke
the windowpane of the car and prevented Raha from entering the ONGC office at the helibase.
President of the association of Scientific and Technical Officers of ONGC M K Mirchandani said Raha
was prevented from entering the premises and he had to go back.
The ONGC chairman, who was visiting the helibase a day after the crash of the helicopter in the Arabian
Sea, however, was unhurt.
An ONGC official said it was "more of an emotional outburst of the employees".
The employees under the banner of the Association of Scientific and Technical Officers of ONGC, on
August 11 gheroed Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Ram Naik at the helibase and demanded a
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the cause of the crash of the chopper belonging to
Mesco Aviation and removal of Raha.
They have also threatened to go on a "cease work" agitation from 6.00 am (IST) on August 13 if their
demand, which includes increased compensation to those dead in the crash and jobs for their next of kin
are not met by the management.
A committee of directors have been appointed to negotiate with the association.
