New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on August 12 sought to play down the reported differences voiced by new Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas chief Mahant Nritya Gopal Das on Ayodhya and Kashi-Mathura issues, saying this only shows their independent outlook.

Das had been reported as saying that he would be talking to local Muslims in Ayodhya to find a solution to the vexed issue and that Kashi and Mathura were not on his agenda.

Asked about the remarks, Singhal said, "We have never been against talking to Muslims. They have been running away."

On the question of Mathura and Kashi, Singhal said, "He (Das) is right. Right now, we are working for the construction of the Ram temple, whose pillars and carved stones are ready. We are not talking of Kashi and Mathura now."

Singhal, however, recalled that the new Nyas chief had once said that a Babri mosque would not be allowed to be rebuilt anywhere in the country.

Das took over the reins of the VHP-backed Trust after the recent demise of Mahant Paramhans Ramachandra Das.

Meanwhile, two senior archaeologists associated with the Sangh Parivar, S P Gupta and A K Sharma, who were present during the recent excavations, on August 12 told a press conference that reports about nothing being found during the excavation and claims that the mosque was built on virgin soil were "baseless".
