Bangalore: Maintaining that no political party has opposed the proposed legislation on prevention of
cruelty to cows, Union Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh on August 13 said the Bill, to be introduced in
the current Parliament session, would be passed with a "thumping majority".
"We are introducing the Bill in the monsoon session. It will take the form of an Act after its passing with
thumping majority in Parliament," Singh told reporters.
About the "opposition by different political parties" to the Bill, he said "no political party has opposed".
Singh said the Bill proposes to prevent cruelty or killing of cow, restriction on export of cow and
prohibition of sale of beef, among others.
Earlier, speaking at a function with Rajnath Singh, former Union Minister and Congress MP C K Jaffer
Sharief said he welcomed the Bill though it was "being introduced keeping in view the elections next year
(2004)".
