Siwan (Bihar): Controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammed Shahabuddin surrendered
before a local court on August 13 in connection with four cases, including the kidnapping and suspected
murder of a Communist Party of India – Marxist-Leninist (CPI-ML) worker, and was remanded to judicial
custody till August 25.
The Lok Sabha member from Siwan, who was on the run ever since Director General of Police D P Ojha
issued express orders for his arrest on July 30 in the kidnapping and suspected murder of CPI-ML
activist Munna Chaudhury, gave himself up before Chief Judicial Magistrate Sushil Kumar Sinha, who
sent him in judicial remand.
The surrender followed rejection of Shahabuddin's anticipatory bail application by District and Sessions
Judge Abhijit Sinha on August 7 and order for attachment of his property by the CJM the next
day.
Though Shahabuddin surrendered in the four cases, in which the DGP had issued orders for his arrest,
his counsel Isht Deo Tiwari made no prayer for regular bail in any of them.
A Siwan court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the MP in February 2001 in the Munna
Chaudhary case and Shahabuddin was evading arrest ever since.
