Baderwah: A 400-year-old temple was set afire by some unidentified persons at a place 15 km from Baderwah in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district in the wee hours of August 13, police sources said.

The temple dedicated to snake god Subernag was set ablaze at around 2.30 am (IST) in Subernag Ridge, they said, adding the shrine was gutted.

Soon after the news spread, shopkeepers downed their shutters in Baderwah town as a mark of protest resulting in tension, the sources said.

Police and security forces have been rushed to the area, they said, adding Army and police are patrolling the sensitive areas of the town.
