48 dalits hurt as Thakurs open fire in UP village

Lucknow: In a caste clash, 48 dalits were injured, seven of them seriously, when members of Thakur community opened fire following a dispute over a piece of land at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district, a Home Department spokesman said.

The dalits opposed the Thakurs when they arrived at village Tajopur in Sarai Lakhnasi police station area in their tractors for tilling the disputed land. The Thakurs then opened fire, causing injuries to 48 people, he said.
