Vajpayee to address NDA MPs on August 18
Friday, August 15 2003 20:44 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A meeting of MPs and leaders of NDA (National democratic Alliance) partners and supporting parties will be held in New Delhi on August 18 morning ahead of the debate on the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha moved by the Congress against the government.

The meeting, to be chaired by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, will finalise the strategy to be adopted by the ruling coalition, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told reporters after informal parleys Vajpayee had with his Deputy L K Advani, senior party colleagues and NDA convenor George Fernandes in New Delhi on August 15 evening.

"We will expose all the lies and disinformation being carried out by the Congress and other Opposition parties during the course of the debate," Swaraj said.

Asked whether Fernandes will be fielded during the debate, she said, "George will speak as he is the Defence Minister and there is no bar to his participating in the debate."

Others who attended the meeting, which also reviewed the political situation arising out of the Congress move, were BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president M Venkaiah Naidu, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh and senior BJP leader V K Malhotra.
