Top Afghan commander among 6 killed in J&K

Jammu: A top Afghan commander was among six persons killed in various districts of Jammu and
Kashmir since August 15 night, official sources said on August 16.
Hamza Turki of Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami (HUJI) and Habzi, a Pakistani belonging to the Al-Badr, were killed
in a fierce gunbattle at 03:30 hours (IST) after a search and cordon operation by the Army acting on
specific information in Kote forest area of Thanamandi of Rajouri district, the sources said.
The duo were instrumental in the killing of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and some jawans in
attacks in Thanamandi, they said.
Two AK rifles, one pika gun, 13 UBGL grenades, two radio sets, seven magazines, 179 rounds and
three improvised explosive devices (IED) were recovered, the sources said and added the operation to
track down militants was still on when reports last came from the area.
Militants barged into the house of one Rashid Shah in Lasana area of Surankote tehsil of Poonch
district on August 15 night and shot him dead on the pretext that he was an informer, they
said.
A security personnel, who was injured along with two others in an explosion caused by suspected ultras
who detonating a improvised explosive device in Banihal area of Doda district on August 14, succumbed
to his injuries at Udhampur hospital on August 15.
