Saturday, August 16 2003 18:20 Hrs (IST)

Patna: Strongly defending Bihar government's action of ordering externment of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Acharya Giririraj Kishore, a day after Parishad's high profile international general secretary Praveen Togadia was packed off to Delhi, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Laloo Prasad Yadav on August 16 said anybody trying to disturb communal amity in the state would be sternly dealt with.

''They are trying to turn Bihar, a symbol of communal brotherhood, into Gujarat. How can we silently watch them accomplish their sinister designs,'' he told reporters at the 1, Anne Marg official residence of his Chief Minister wife Rabri Devi.

''Our campaign against the VHP leaders will continue. Every time they come, they will be turned back. And if they persist in their misadventure they will be put behind bars in Beur jail in rooms without a fan,'' he warned.

VHP senior international vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore was summarily externed from the state on his arrival at the Patna airport after his scheduled programme to address a workers' training camp at Muzaffarpur in North Bihar was banned by the government.

Parishad's international general secretary Praveen Togadia was, likewise, bundled off to Delhi on August 15 morning on his arrival from Mumbai to participate in a Independence Day celebrations at a school in communally sensitive Phulwarishari area of the state capital and some other VHP programmes.
