US national gangraped in Jharkhand, four held

Jamshedpur: A 24-year old India-born American national was allegedly gangraped on the bank of a river at Ghatsila in Jharkhand on August 17 evening, a senior police officer said.

Four youths were arrested in the wee hours of August 17 in connection with the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ghatsila range) S K Sinha said.

The woman, who is currently lodged in a hotel in Ghatsila, was sitting alone on the bank of River Subarnarekha after sunset when she was allegedly gangraped by four youths at the desolate spot, Sinha said.

She had earlier got down from Kurla-Howrah Express at the Ghatsila station and rushed to the river bank to watch sunset after checking in at a hotel, Sinha said.

The four arrested, brothers Vijoy Dhiwar, Sukhdeb Diwar, Bipin alias Tiru and Bablu alias Kodal were residents of Amaiyanagar under Musaboni police station area and picked up from their locality, the DSP said.

Medical examination of the woman would be conducted later, the DSP said.
