Madhumitha murder: CBI to question Tripathi's wife
Sunday, August 17 2003 21:00 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would soon be questioning sacked Uttar Pradesh Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) minister Amarmani Tripathi's wife, Madhumina, in connection with the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla even as the blood sample of the former minister was taken for DNA test.

Highly placed CBI sources said the agency was now probing the jealousy aspect of the case and would question Madhumina, who is believed to have been opposed to the relationship between the poetess and her husband.

The sources said calls made from and to Madhumina's phone were also being scrutinised by the CBI after obtaining the records from the BSNL office.

The CBI officials said the questioning of Madhumina was a routine matter as the probe agency had to investigate all aspects of the case.

The CBI was also conducting raids at various places to nab the killer of 24-year-old Madhumita at her Paper Colony residence on May 9 the sources said.

The servant of Madhumita, who had opened the door on the ill-fated day, provided some rough sketches about the killer.

Meanwhile, the blood sample of Tripathi had been taken by the CBI for conducting the DNA test. This test would be compared with the foetus of Madhumita.

Tripathi initially showed reluctance to give blood sample for DNA testing but finally agreed for the test that would be conducted at Hyderabad, the sources added

The CBI, at least four times so far in connection with the murder has questioned the former Uttar Pradesh minister, who is believed to be close to the slain poetess.

Tripathi, who was sacked by UP Chief Minister Mayawati after his name was associated with the slain poetess, has been confronted with several documents recovered from the residence of Madhumita.

Tripathi, who acknowledged his links with Madhumita, was quizzed about the calls he had received from the nearby area of Paper Colony on the day of Madhumita's murder.

Tripathi has been denying any involvement in the murder of Madhumita.

The former minister was also questioned as to why he had shifted his scheduled press conference from May 8 to May 9.
