DMK pledges support to NDA in no-confidence motion
Monday, August 18 2003 10:49 Hrs (IST)
Tiruchirappali: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) came out openly in support of the Vajpayee
government saying it would oppose the no-confidence motion sponsored by the Congress party.
Talking to reporters, party president M Karunanidhi said the DMK is very much in the National
Democratic Alliance (NDA) line up and there was no question why it should not support it in the no-trust
motion. The decision was taken after consulting senior DMK leaders, he added.
Saying that there was no danger to the Vajpayee government, Karunanidhi said the DMK would not
mind the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supporting the NDA.
He, however, made it clear that the party's stand on a legislation to construct Ram Temple in Ayodhya
and ban on cow slaughter was unchanged and if the NDA comes out with such legislations DMK would
not support them.
